Representing PBSC at the 2023 Beyond Autism Professional Conference

PBSC was invited to present this June at the BeyondAutism Professional’s Conference which was hosted by the University of Suffolk. The event was held in partnership with the Childhoods, Children and Young People Research Theme at the university’s Institute of Social Justice and Crime. The theme of the conference was “Social Constructs and the Realities of Disability and Autism Inclusion.” Presenters included researchers, parents, autistic people and professionals, amongst others. The atmosphere was one for shared learning and growth in order to identify how autistic people can be better supported.

PBSC was proud to participate through sharing two presentations across the two-day event. These included a presentation by Helena Lee, Service Lead and BCBA, UKBA(cert) on “Utilising the PERMA Model when Designing PBS Plans” and one by Lauren Beadle, Service Lead and BCBA, UKBA(cert) and Susan E. Tirella, Clinical Lead and BCBA-LBA, UKBA(cert) on “Defining and Applying Assent and Assent Withdrawal Procedures in Behaviour Analytic Services for Autistic People.” In addition, PBSC staff participated in poster sessions with one by Sarah Hellawell, Service Lead and BCBA, UKBA(cert) on “Pathological Demand Avoidance from a Behavioural Perspective” and a second by Aisling Campbell, Service Lead and BCBA, UKBA(cert) and Joanna Nakar, Trainee Behaviour Analyst on “A Client’s Perspective of PBSC’s Behavioural Intensive Community Support, Suicide Prevention (BICS-SP) Model.” It was an honour to be included in the event to both share the amazing work of PBSC and learn from so many others working to improve services for autistic people.

Abstracts and copies of posters are available to download on the conference website.
