What is Spot Purchase?

The Spot Purchase service was the founding service of PBSC in 2008. The Spot Purchase service can offer a variety of services based on people’s needs following a referral.

The service can offer the 5 stage model to individuals it supports. This is an intensive support service which includes providing; Functional Assessment, Intervention planning, staff training and support, family training and support and engaging with local services to prevent placement breakdown, hospital admissions or provide specialist support.

It can also offer a functional assessment only or intervention package only, based on individual needs. Spot Purchase is designed to be an adaptable service that can pick up clients from any Borough in London, or any area outside of London (given appropriate resources), and this can be a faster route for those in crisis.

Spot Purchase does not have a specific criterion of who it supports and will accept referrals based on clinical capacity and capabilities within the Spot Purchase team.

PBSC have a well-established process for supporting organisations and systems to deliver high-quality support to complex people. PBSC have a track record of using the science of Behaviour to provide effective behaviour support for people displaying a wide range of Behaviour of Concern, reducing admission to hospital and residential school and care settings, and working with individuals in a person-centred way to understand them, involve them, and ultimately increase their quality of life. The Spot Purchase service offers an easily accessible route to access these services in a timelier manner, and in any location (given current resources).
